INTERCULTURAL HOUSING STUDENT CENTER
Expected Completion Date
The proposed new center for Intercultural Housing is a mixed use apartment-style residential unit for students at Tiffin University. Its location affords a development that would house not only student residences, but retail [cafes // bookstore] and learning spaces such as classrooms. The building will also form the southeast edge of a new public space on campus - with sand volleyball & other athletic activities - framed by its courtyard type massing.
A unique feature of the building is the integration of apartment-style living units, which caters to both an international student body as well as non-traditional students. The benefit of this organization is to provide housing solutions similar to those that students are finding off-campus and bring them on-campus. Another unique feature is the exterior arcade at ground level. The continuation of the structure provides a unique opportunity for a covered approach and walkway, which will serve for a protection from the elements during winter [rain & cold winds] and during summer [sunlight heat gain]. This arcade will further reinforce the buildings retail and academic components at ground level as distinguished from the residential above.
